Ekain Zubizarreta

Ekain Zubizarreta is a lecturer at the University of the Basque Country (Spain). He is also a member of the research laboratory ISP (Paris Nanterre University, France) that hosts the UNESCO Chair in “Doping Studies and Analysis of Anti-Doping Policies”. He specializes in sociology and political sciences of sport with a particular emphasis on the study of doping and anti-doping policies. In his research, he analyses the implementation of anti-doping policies using a local and comparative approach, as well as the links between anti-doping policies and other political issues, such as regional self-governance in the Basque Autonomous Community. He participated in the UNESCO funded research project “Comparative Research on Social Sciences: For an Evaluation of Anti-Doping Policies” and the AFLD-funded research project “Pratiques dopantes et pratiques antidopage à l’épreuve de la critique”. He has also assessed UNESCO-funded national programs in Zambia and Cape Verde. Currently, he is part of the the UNESCO High-Level Panel of International Legal Experts.
