Dr Jonny Rees is a Law and Bioethics academic at the University of Bristol’s Law School, and a Contributing Editor at Unfilteredonline.com. He received his PhD in Law from the Centre for Health, Law, and Society at the University of Bristol’s Law School in 2021. Prior to his PhD Jonny gained undergraduate (LLB) and master’s (LLM) degrees in Law.

During his PhD Jonny completed formal academic research visits to Yale University’s Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics, and the Hastings Center in New York. He was also able to secure a World Universities Network/Institute for Advanced Studies Research Mobility Funding Award to visit the University of Sydney’s Health Law Centre. While studying for his doctorate he continued to run his own health and fitness business, in addition to working as Course Convenor for a Bioethics module at one university and tutoring on the Contract Law LLB course at another. He has taught Jurisprudence and (separately) doping/human enhancement on a specialist LLM and intercalated master’s, both at Bristol University.

His PhD and associated research examined how doping and enhancement should be defined and regulated in elite professional sport, including a comparative element with the US, between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the US domestic professional sports leagues. He is also a former Ultimate Performance personal trainer, and former multi-sport competitive athlete.
