Thomas Zandonai is a Lecturer and Research Collaborator at the Department of Pharmacology, Pediatrics and Organic Chemistry and at Sports Research Center of Miguel Hernández University of Elche, (Alicante), Spain. Before this, he was a coordinator and administrator of the “Doping NO Thanks” online course at the University of Verona, Italy (2006-2011). He also was a lecturer of the course “Doping in Sport” at the University Santo Tomas, La Serena, Chile (2007). His primary field of research is focussed on the effects of analgesics (e.g. tramadol, paracetamol; in collaboration with the University of Granada, Spain), stimulants (e.g. nicotine) and benzodiazepine on cognitive and exercise performance. He collaborates with the Neuropsychopharmacology laboratory of the University of Verona, where he obtained his PhD in Translational Biomedicine (2014). Thomas is also interested in educational strategies to prevent doping. He, for example, collaborates with the University of Rome “La Sapienza” on media literacy interventions targeting performance and appearance enhancing substance (PAES) use amongst university and high school students.
